It has been a very active afternoon and evening across North and Central Texas, even more so than earlier thought. Upper-level lift was a tad more intense than anticipated, hence the storms able to develop down into Central Texas. We’ve had one brief tornado this evening near Justin, but no damage has been reported. The same can’t be said for very large hail, of which we easily have millions in damage in northern parts of D/FW. The threat for severe weather will continue for the next few hours, but we should start to see activity south of D/FW into Central Texas weaken by 11 PM. Further north, the storms from Sherman to Sanger to Farmersville should continue to move east/northeast. The latest HRRR model has these storms moving into Southern Oklahoma in a few hours. If they tend to take a more east/northeasterly track, they may impact portions of Northeast Texas tonight. Very large hail will continue to be the main severe weather threat over the next few hours in North Texas, but an isolated tornado and wind damage can’t be ruled out.
