Relatively Benign Weather through Friday

Anytime the weather can be described as benign during the spring is something to be thankful for. As a strong Nor’Easter impacts the Northeastern United States tomorrow we’ll remain under a northwesterly flow aloft with a deep-digging trough off to our east. This will bring us several days of quiet weather. Temperatures this afternoon will remain on the cooler side of the spectrum with highs in the upper 50s in Texoma and the northeastern Texas Panhandle up into the 70s in Deep South Texas, the Rio Grande Valley, and the Borderland. Through the week we will see a warm-up across the state. The warmest temperatures, likely peaking in the upper 80s to around 90 degrees, will be across the Permian Basin, Trans-Pecos, and Borderland. Cooler air will try and wedge in to Northeast Texas this week from the higher elevations in Arkansas. That will help keep high temperatures in the upper 50s to 60s through Thursday. Friday looks to be a warm day across Texas with highs int he 70s and 80s statewide.

Moistures values will increase by Thursday and Friday. No large-scale source of lift or upper level storm systems will be in place, but we may see a few light showers beginning Thursday and continuing into Friday. Coverage of any rain looks to remain below 30-40 percent at this time, and will be very light. We may see a few thunderstorms during the afternoon hours on Friday in western North Texas and Northwest Texas, but we’ll determine those chances once we get into the mid-week timeframe.
