Windy & Dry Today – Period of Quiet Weather Returns

The main weather highlight today for our state will be gusty winds and dry conditions which will enhance wildfire threats, especially across the Hill Country and down into deep South Texas. What’s driving these winds is a very strong surface low up along the Red River in northeast Texas which will shift east today dragging much drier air in behind it.  Wind Advisories and Red Flag Warnings are in place today for a large portion of the state with sustained northwest winds in the 30 mph range and wind gusts into the 40mph and 50mph range in some places.  Definitely not a day to be out on area lakes or for burning rubbish.

Temperatures today will be slightly above normal, but not too ridiculous for this time of the year. Highs tomorrow and Tuesday will be quite mild before a strong cold front arrives late Tuesday into Wednesday. This front will arrive dry and will not bring a threat of winter weather along with it.  After Wednesday, temperatures will remain slightly below average through the end of the work week and into the weekend.

Rainfall will be hard to come by this week with nothing expected until we get into Saturday and early Sunday across south Texas and up into the coastal plains and southeast Texas.  The remainder of the state is expected to remain dry.  After all the weather excitement this past week, it will be nice returning to a much milder forecast for the week ahead!
