Strong to Severe Storms & A Few Tornadoes In The Forecast This Evening

Everything from winter weather to severe weather showing up on the state radar at the moment.  A squall line of storms developed earlier this afternoon out west and is now stretched from north central Texas down into southwest Texas near Brackettville. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until midnight for portions of North Texas, Central Texas and the Hill Country.  Dallas, Stephenville, Hillsboro, Waco, Killeen, Austin, Fredericksburg and Kerrville are all within the Tornado Watch area.  So far, the only confirmed tornado reports have come from a cell which developed south of DFW near Whitney earlier this evening and is currently moving into the southern portion of the DFW metroplex.  This cell currently over Grandview just went under a new Tornado Warning (radar indicated…no ground confirmation) with impacts expected between Grandview and Alvarado momentarily and further impacts up into southern Tarrant and Dallas Counties shortly.  If you are in the path of this storm, seek shelter immediately!

Further south along the squall line, we have another Tornado Warning near Kerrville (radar indicated…no ground confirmation), and a couple of Severe Thunderstorm Warnings…one for a cell just west of Bandera, and the other for a cell over Brackettville.  As the squall line continues to track east over the next several hours, expect the main impacts to be damaging winds, hail, frequent lightning and localized heavy rain and flooding. The tornado threat is not high, but still possible along the leading edge of the squall line as it tracks east over the next several hours.  We are expected to line to decrease in intensity as it heads east, but it will be a few more hours before we begin to see that process take shape. As always, stay tuned to your local media stations for the very latest in your area.  You can also track the storms with our live interactive radar at texasstormchasers.com/radar at any time.
