Statewide Rain Event Starts Tomorrow – Thursday Evening Update

Howdy and Good Evening folks… I wanted to post a few brief notes on the upcoming precipitation event for Texas. It’s going to be cool to cold and the rain will certainly make you think we’re getting closer to winter. Plan on having a jacket and rain gear ready if you’re heading out at any point this weekend.

  • Rain chances will increase on Friday, especially from the Texas Panhandle south through the Concho Valley into South-Central Texas and to the coast.
  • Widespread precipitation is likely, except for lower chances in the Rio Grande Valley, across all of Texas by Friday Night into the day on Saturday.
  • Temperatures will support a changeover to snow in north/western sections of the Texas Panhandle late Friday Night into the morning hours Saturday. Light accumulations on grassy and elevated surfaces are possible. Temperatures will warm above freezing with a changeover to rain by Saturday afternoon.
  • High chances will continue into Sunday across the southern half of Texas. The Texas Panhandle will be dry and rain chances look to decrease (but not stop) in Northwest Texas, the Big Country, into North Texas. Rain chances increase again across all areas except the Borderland and Panhandle for Sunday Night.
  • We start to see rain chances decrease from west to east on Monday into Monday Night.

A few severe storms are possible in Deep South Texas late Friday Night. A few severe storms are possible in the Middle Coast region on Saturday. The heaviest rain totals – up to 7 to 8 inches – will be possible in proximity of the coast in Southeast Texas. Localized flooding is possible this weekend in Southeast Texas and the Middle Coast. The heaviest rain totals overall look to be east of Interstate 35 in East Texas, Southeast Texas, and the Middle Texas Coast. Don’t get me wrong though, it’ll still be pretty wet across Texas over the next couple of days.
