Spotty Rain Today with Widespread Storms on Monday

The primary weather issue today will be scattered showers in the Concho Valley, Southwest Texas, Central and South-Central Texas, into the Middle Coast and western sections of Southeast Texas and the Brazos Valley. A weak cool front will bring light northerly winds at the surface today, but southerly winds continue just a few thousand feet above the ground. That scenario helps light precipitation develop if ingredients are just right – and they are today. A few lightning strikes will be possible, but nothing even close to severe limits will occur today. The luckiest folks will pick up half an inch of rain today, but a majority will see much less than that. Showers will shift west tonight into the Permian Basin, Concho Valley, and Southwest Texas with light totals. Saturday will generally be mostly dry before our next system on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday.

A weak cool front has pushed south into the Hill Country and Central Texas this morning. Conditions south of the front are muggy with patchy dense fog occuring at the time of this writing. High temperatures north of the cool front will be cooler today with light northerly winds. South of the front temperatures in Deep South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley will top out in the middle 80s for your post-Thanksgiving errands. Low temperatures will vary depending on your side of the front, but nothing too cold is expected until the middle of this upcoming week.

A strong upper level disturbance will move into Texas Sunday Night with precipitation chances beginning in the Concho Valley, Big Country, North Texas, Texoma, and Northeast Texas. Numerous showers and thunderstorms can be anticipated on Monday from along I-35 in southern OKlahoma into Central Texas – and points east into Northeast Texas, East Texas, Southeast Texas, and the Brazos Valley. A few storms may be severe in East Texas and Southeast Texas on Monday and Monday evening, but we’ll have to see how things come together. It may be a case like Tuesday where the ingredients just don’t align properly. Locally heavy rains will be possible with the heaviest totals – up to 2.5 inches – in Northeast Texas. A cool front will sweep east of Texas by Tuesday bringing an end to the widespread rain chances. Another chance of widespread precipitation may arrive by next weekend with another strong storm system.

Temperatures behind the cool front by Tuesday and Wednesday will be noticeably cooler with highs staying in the 40s in the Texas Panhandle and 50s into the Concho Valley, North Texas, and Northeast Texas. Overnight lows will also become cooler thanks to the drier air, but still not the type of cold you’d expect for late November.
