Unusually Warm and Dry Late October Weather Continues

The forecast is beginning to sound like a broken record…warm and dry, warm and dry, warm and dry.  For those that love these days, you’re in for a treat for probably the next week to 10 days.  For those who love those cool and rainy Fall days, it looks like the atmosphere is going to keep us waiting. What a contrast to this time last year when we were experiencing record rainfall across the state.  As David mentioned in his post this morning, we’re in for an extended period of above average temps and very dry conditions.  By this weekend, some parts of the state will experience highs close to 20 degrees above normal, although most will see averages between 8 and 10 degrees above normal.  For tonight, continued warm and muggy conditions across much of the state with lows only dipping down to mid 60s across much of northern, central and southeast Texas overnight.  Rural areas may drop a few more degrees, but not by much. Coolest spots will be found across the panhandle and far western Texas where humidity levels are a bit lower.  If clouds clear out sufficiently overnight across central and southeast/coastal Texas, patchy dense fog may be possible once again tomorrow morning, so keep that in mind as you head out the door.

Highs tomorrow, will reach the low to mid 80s across much of the state.  Again, by this late in October, we should be looking at highs in the low to mid 70s at best with lows dropping into the upper 40s to low 50s each night.

Looking ahead…a good week to 10 days of above average highs with little rain. After that, there’s no crystal ball that can say definitively what will happen, but the Climate Prediction Center’s Outlook is currently optimistic for rain to come back into the forecast after the first of the month.  While we can’t say for sure this will happen, it’s certainly something to hope for and watch over the coming week as new forecast data continues to develop.
