Spotty showers/storms today with slightly cooler conditions

2016-06-20_6-29-22

Temperatures will be a few degrees cooler today than what we saw last week. Heat index values will likewise be lower with the warmest readings in the upper 90s to right around 100 degrees. That’s good news for those who have been dealing with the heat over the past week. A good five to ten degrees cooler certainly won’t make many complain. Don’t get me wrong – its still going to be hot out there. However we’re done with our first heatwave of the season. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon across Northeast Texas, East Texas, Southeast Texas, the Coastal Plains, into South Texas, and the Rio Grande Valley. The highest coverage of storms should be during the mid and late afternoon hours. The strongest storms may produce frequent cloud to ground lightning, brief heavy rain, and localized gusty winds up to 50 MPH. The Rio Grande Valley may end up seeing the most showers/storms today thanks to increased moisture from Tropical Depression Four making landfall down in Mexico today. The warm weather will continue for the foreseeable future with no major rainmakers expected in the next 5-7 days. Welcome to summer folks!
