Sunday's Weather Roundup – Final Round of Rain Rolls Through Today

Good morning and happy Sunday!  Conditions will improve considerably later today for the panhandle and rolling plains region which has been dealing with a major ice storm since late Thursday.  TXDot is still listing numerous roads across the area as hazardous for travel at this time with temperatures still at or below freezing this morning, but by early afternoon, we should see temps climb into the mid to upper 30s which will help to quickly melt any of the residual ice on the roads.  For the rolling plains and far western north Texas, temps are already above freezing with just light rain expected over the next several hours until the system shifts east and out of the area by this afternoon.

For north Texas, the final round of light to moderate rain will impact the region through late afternoon before finally moving off to the east by early tomorrow morning.  The lull in precipitation yesterday allowed most of the street flooding to abate, but creeks and rivers still remain high.  Additional rainfall accumulation of 1 to 1.5 inches is expected today on top of what we’ve already seen, but flash flooding will not be as much of a concern today thanks to yesterday’s lull and the fact that today’s rain will not be quite as heavy.

FWD today

Now that the cold front has finally made it off the coast, residents in the southern half of the state will see much cooler temps, though a bit on the gloomy side with light drizzle and rain expected for the next day or two.  In fact, temps will remain slightly below normal through much of the work week with an additional push of reinforcing cool air expected by mid-week.

Highs today…chilly.  Lows tonight…chilly-er.  But we will see a tiny bit of a warming trend for daily highs mainly in the 50s for the coming work week.  We’re getting to that time of the year when temps begin to stay on the cool side as we settle into our typical late fall pattern.  Rain chances for the work week will shift south and along the coast then clear out completely by the end of the week which will give the northern half of the state a nice chance to dry out.
