Isolated to scattered thunderstorms will remain possible tonight across the Permian Basin and far West Texas. Widespread severe weather is not expected but localized gusty winds are possible with the stronger storms. Isolated showers will also be possible in East Texas overnight.
Otherwise hot and humid conditions will continue tonight as we are in July after all. Most of Texas will experience partly cloudy to mostly clear skies tonight.
Heat index temperatures will climb to right around 100 degrees during the afternoon hours on Monday along and east of the Interstate 35 corridor. Check out Laredo with a forecast heat index of 104°F tomorrow afternoon! The heat will really crank up by late week as a heat ridge builds in and potentially brings the first widespread 100 degree readings of the summer to Texas.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected Monday afternoon into Monday night across the Permian Basin, West Texas, and the Texas Panhandle. A few strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible in the Texas Panhandle with damaging winds and pocket-change hail the threats.
Forecast rain totals through Thursday morning from the Weather Prediction Center
More widespread and heavy rain will be possible on Tuesday and Wednesday across the southeast Texas Panhandle, West-Central Texas, and Northwest Texas. The Weather Prediction Center is forecasting average rain totals of 2 to 4 inches through Thursday morning. The region has been pretty dry over the past two weeks so I don’t think we will see a widespread flooding threat. A few strong storms will be possible during this timeframe as well.
After Wednesday rain chances look to shut off as the heat ridge builds in. Temperatures next weekend could be very near 100 degrees for a chunk of Texas for the first time this summer.
