11:05pm Radar/Severe Weather Update – Western Texas

A squall line of severe storms currently approaching Sweetwater and Abilene have a history of producing winds in excess of 70mph along with 1 inch hail.  It’s expected that this line will remain strong to severe for another hour or so before beginning to wind down and eventually dissipating before reaching the western fringes of the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex well after midnight.  In the meantime, heavy rain, strong winds, hail and frequent lightning will be possible for folks in the path of the most intense portion of the line currently tracking along and just north of I-20 in Mitchell and Scurry counties.  Elsewhere along the line, heavy rain, gusty winds and frequent lightning will be likely for several more hours until the squall line begins to lose strength and dissipate.
