UPDATE: Expansion of Winter Storm Warnings for Central Texas

The National Weather Service office in Ft. Worth has expanded the previous Winter Storm Warnings for north central Texas a bit further south to include the following counties:  Bell, Coryell, Henderson, Lampasas, McLennan and Navarro.  This includes the cities of Waco, Athens, Gun Barrel City, Corsicana, Lampasas, Copperas Cove, Gatesville, Killeen, Temple and Ft. Hood.  The extends the total coverage of Winter Storm warnings from north Texas down into the Hill Country Region (see comprehensive warning and advisory map below).  This Warning will take effect at midnight tonight and last through Noon on Thursday.  The main threats will be freezing rain overnight tonight which is expected to transition to all sleet by morning.  Accumulations up to 1/4 inch of ice and 1/2 inch of sleet can be expected by the time the system moves out mid-day on Thursday.  Driving tomorrow morning across the area is expected to be slick and hazardous, especially on area bridges and overpasses.  Stay off the roads if at all possible and check local news media or www.drivetexas.org for the latest on road conditions before heading out to work tomorrow morning.
