Midnight Winter Weather Update

Most of the precip across the Dallas & Fort Worth metro has transitioned over to snow…with some reports of big, chunky snow quickly accumulating between 1 and 3 inches…and it’s still falling!  Further south, starting to see reports of sleet coming in from areas just west and southwest of Austin…Fredericksburg, Leander Hudson Bend, Wimberly, Dripping Springs are all reporting light to moderate sleet, with one report of 1/4 inch hail near Del Rio.  Folks across the Hill Country and central Texas will see an uptick in winter precip across the region within the hour, and could get a few rumbles of thunder along with it.  Once the winter mix of sleet and freezing rain arrives, road conditions will quickly go downhill.  If you’re not already home and off the roads, do so as soon as possible.  Across northeast Texas, not seeing too many reports yet, but what we have seen has been mainly rain and sleet mix. Roadways are becoming slick and will remain so all night…especially along and north of the I-20 corridor. All of this will continue to move east overnight with the bulk of the freezing precip remaining across north central, northeast and central Texas.  This is likely the last Winter event for awhile.  I won’t say for the rest of winter and early spring, but next week’s outlook will put a smile on your face with much warmer temps and no snow!
