Accumulating Snow Beginning in D/FW | 845AM Winter Storm Update

Snow has now entered the D/FW Metroplex. We’re getting reports of snow in Decatur, Weatherford, Fort Worth, Burleson, Cleburne, and Hillsboro. Snow will start falling shortly in the remainder of the D/FW Metroplex. Locally moderate to heavy snow will be possible across North Texas this morning. We’re still expecting 1 to 2 inches of snow in the D/FW Metroplex. Isolated totals up to 3 inches will be possible north and northwest of D/FW into Northwest Texas. We’ll see snow totals ranging from a dusting to under one inch south of D/FW into Central and East Texas.

Moderate snow is falling across the Big Country north into Northwest Texas including Abilene, Wichita Falls, Vernon, and Childress. Locally heavy snow is possible with accumulations of 2 to 4 inches possible in Northwest Texas and along the Red River. Lesser accumulations of 1 to 3 inches will be possible in the Big Country.

Light snow continues across the Panhandle and South Plains where some additional snow accumulations on the order of 1 to 2 inches will be possible.

With temperatures below freezing across a large area snow will accumulate on roads. Slick conditions are already reported across the Panhandle, West Texas, Big Country, parts of the Concho Valley, Northwest Texas and western North Texas. As snow increases in the D/FW Metroplex I expect road conditions to deteriorate. Temperatures won’t rise above freezing until Saturday and we’ll see snow continue into the late afternoon hours.
